This double-storey home in the Mooikloof estate had all the hallmarks of a well-built property let down by ageing exterior finishes. Years of Pretoria’s sun, seasonal movement, and highveld storms had taken their toll on the rendered walls, while a section of covered roof slab needed proper waterproofing to stop it from becoming a long-term liability. The homeowner brought in Eco Seal for professional exterior wall painting and slab waterproofing in one coordinated project.

The problem

Close inspection of the plastered walls revealed extensive hairline and structural cracking spreading across nearly every elevation, from the double-volume entrance pillar to the garage returns and the upper-storey bedroom walls. Left unattended, cracks like these let moisture track behind the render, degrading the substrate and eventually causing bubbling, staining, and paint failure. On the covered patio below the main bedroom balcony, the roof slab also showed signs of wear, with the existing surface no longer providing a reliable barrier against water ingress into the entertainment area beneath it.

The Eco Seal solution

Eco Seal, an approved SealPro applicator, planned a two-part remedial programme to address both the walls and the roof slab:

1. Wash and prep – the full exterior wall surface was pressure-washed to remove dirt, algae, and loose material, exposing sound substrate to work from.
2. Crack and plaster repair – every crack was opened out and filled with a fibre-cement based repair compound, matched to the existing wall texture so the repairs blend once painted. On this property alone, well over 450 m² of wall required this treatment.
3. Prime for movement – once cured, the repaired sections were primed with a flexible RainShield coating designed to bridge fine cracking and resist re-cracking as the substrate expands and contracts with temperature.
4. Two-coat topcoat – a full two-coat application of a high-quality exterior paint system followed, restoring a uniform, weather-resistant finish across the walls and eaves.
5. Roof slab waterproofing – on the affected patio slab, the surface was prepped and primed before Eco Seal installed the ArmTec waterproofing system, sealing the deck against water penetration and protecting the living space below.

The result

The transformation is immediately visible from the driveway: the once cream-toned, crack-marked walls now carry a crisp two-tone charcoal-and-white finish that suits the home’s contemporary architecture, with every repaired section disappearing seamlessly into the new paintwork. The waterproofed roof slab gives the owners confidence that the covered patio will stay dry through the next rainy season, and the whole exterior now reads as a cohesive, freshly maintained home — combining crack repair, waterproofing and painting in one visit.
