Roof Coating Specialists in Pretoria

Exposed to extreme climate changes the roof of a house expands and contracts which results in faded colour, loose tiles, and loose cement on ridges caps.

Annual inspection and regular maintenance makes sense and can help prevent spending a lot of money on future repairs and a roof that is kept in good conditions means that your home is protected from elements.

ECO Seals' contractors are roof painting specialists using only proven roof coating system. The roof coating system can be applied to:

  • Clay tiles
  • Cement tiles
  • Galvanised Sheeting
  • IBR Sheeting

As with any redecorating the preparation of the roof is of utmost importance. Roofs need to be cleaned thoroughly with high-pressure cleaner before re-coating. On rough tiles roofs, the paint goes on a lot thicker when applied by hand than when sprayed as much of the paint is trapped between the rough particles on the tile. For these reasons, spraying can be done a lot more (economically) to avoid wastage.

New un-coated galvanized roofs should be de-greased thoroughly or left at least six months for the weather to remove the greasiness before painting the first time, as the paint will simply not stick on new galvanized sheeting because of the thin coating of grease that is covered on at the factory.

It is not advisable to tint normal paint and use it as roof paint, as roofs take direct sunlight most of the time and therefore are prone to fading if proper UV resistant product is not used. As roof paint is made to withstand the severe sun and weather conditions, it is normally a high-quality paint and can be used for several other purposes, like painting steel fencing and balustrades where it can outperform a more expensive alkyd enamel coating.

Before we start painting your house we do all the necessary preparation.  We repair the bad plaster and cracks in the plaster. If necessary we tread the walls against damp, we waterproofing top of the parapet walls. We wash the walls before we start painting and apply primer where necessary. We then only paint the walls with a quality internal or external wall paint depending on the area.

Why spray a roof instead of painting?

It has been proven that spraying your roof is much better than hand painting with a brush or roof roller.

The main reasons are as follows:

  • Roof spray-on tile roofs penetrate deeper.
  • Roof spray gives an even layer of paint.
  • Roof spray can be completed on a house roof within 1 day (2 coats system).
  • Coating will result in better bonding.

The process of roof painting:

  • Power wash tiled roof to remove loose tile dirt and grit.
  • Waterproof all ridge copings.
  • One coat acrylic roof sealer (which will be added to the first coat of paint for better penetration and adhesion).
  • Two coats acrylic roof paint spray applied for even coat.

Another alternative to washing and painting a roof:

  • Clean the roof surface with a soft bristle brush (sweeping brush will do) to remove loose dirt and layer debris that may clog your gutters or damage the roof while washing.
  • Wet the roof surface with a garden hose and allow the roof to soak for at least five minutes. This will loosen dried dirt and make cleaning easier.
  • Sweep the roof again with the sweeping brush and then rinse to check that the roof is clean. If the roof is still dirty, re-wet the surface and allow it to soak for another five minutes.
  • Apply cleaner to the roof while soaking once again and scrub lightly with the sweeping brush.
  • Give the roof a final rinse with clean water before the soap has a chance to dry.
