A tiled balcony is only as good as the waterproofing hidden beneath it. When that membrane fails, water tracks under the tiles, pools where it should drain, and eventually finds its way into the rooms and ceilings below. The problem

The existing tiled balcony was leaking. Once the tiles came up, the reason was clear. Water was ponding across the exposed substrate instead of running to the outlets, a sign that the falls were poor and the old under-tile waterproofing had given up. A flood test confirmed standing water sitting in the low spots long after it should have drained away. The outlets themselves needed to be checked for height, seal and correct installation. Left as it was, every rainfall and every wash-down would keep pushing moisture through the slab.

The Eco Seal solution

As an approved SealPro applicator, Eco Seal rebuilt the balcony as a properly detailed, tile-ready waterproofing system:

1. Stripped the old tiles and tile glue off the entire balcony and removed all the rubble.
2. Flood-tested the exposed screed, confirmed the fall to the outlets, and installed four new outlets set at the correct height and sealed.
3. Cleaned, prepared and primed the substrate so the waterproofing would bond permanently to a sound surface.
4. Installed the ArmTec under-tile waterproofing system, working a flexible membrane over the slab and reinforcing the movement-prone junctions and outlets with StretchSeal.
5. Finished with a tile-ready top coat, leaving an even, fully sealed surface ready for the new tiles to be laid and grouted.

The result

The balcony now has a continuous, correctly falling waterproof layer under the tile line, with new outlets carrying water off the surface the way they should. The 42 square metre area is sealed edge to edge and ready for the owner to tile over with confidence, knowing the membrane underneath will keep the rooms below dry.
